some time before this whole offertory nonsense

[ Quick steps mark the rhythm of Mara's steps, each one the exact same length, pace regular, practiced even. The true stamp of a military trained warrior is her stance and her walk, and Marasia Nel is the standard young girls use to measure themselves. She walks alone through the streets, people moving away respectfully, yet not fearfully; the Lady Wolf might be lethal at times, but the common man also knows her kinder, softer side. She walks alone, because as she eloquently told the Queen, if a royal guard cannot protect themselves, then she is not fit to protect the Queen.

Home comes up the corner, the ancient Nel house, large and imposing, but to her a place of warmth and childhood memories. She's on leave today, mainly because the Queen indicated that if she saw Mara hovering behind her like an overly attentive hound for any longer she would go insane. Get some rest, girl, had been her words, and Mara was quick to obey. It's not as if she doesn't miss her siblings and parents, anyway. The large doors part to let her in, an old servant of the house already there to pick up her coat.

A flight of stairs later and Mara reaches Misha's door. Is she even in there? Only as she reaches out to knock does Mara stop to think that maybe, just maybe she should have let her younger sister know about this visit. Then again, it wouldn't be a surprise visit if she had. Still, if Misha isn't there, she would go out and find her.

Making up her mind, Mara knocks three times, quickly, as she has always knocked on her sister's door.

Styra had a proposition for us. Ora only wants to make it halfway through, so they'll stay out of our way so long as we stay out of theirs. We work as a separate team, and you'll have less to worry about.
Should I make the deal?

I think we should make the deal. If it goes south, I'll take care of it.
