» daughters who do not yield but are wounded to the point of being taken out of the fight are rewarded with a house title if they don't already have one - the only other way to be taken out of the running are to yield, or to die.

» once the queen has served her ten years she must take the black walk, a ceremony that ends in the sacrifice of the queen. sorry, ladies, it's not that great a job.

THE GIRL.

» Although Misha has several older sisters within the age range required for the offertory, she was chosen from a young age with the sole intention of raising her to one day take the position of queen.

» She spent most of her childhood isolated from other families, sometimes even her own, and all of her education has surrounded being prepped for this job.

» A typically very reserved person, Misha has trained herself to conceal her emotions as carefully as possible and often comes across as cold or shy as a result. Her experience of emotions is often intense and difficult to bring down to a normal level, but her ability to present a regal front despite this is like no other.

» Cole was chosen by the Nel family to serve Misha fairly early on, he's been with the family for at least half of her life and has helped extensively with her preparation not only for the job of becoming queen but the offertory itself.

» Once the offertory begins several deals are struck with other low level families who wish to be able to fight with honour but ultimately yield, and she's careful to honour all of those agreements.
